Human plasma albumin was measured simultaneously in 132 samples using BCG and HABA dye binding techniques on a Technicon SMA 12/60 Analyser. There was a good correlation between the values found for albumins falling within the normal range. The BCG method gave consistently higher results at values below 3.5 g% but correlated well with the values found by the manual technique of Reinhold (1953). Increasing the bilirubin concentration was shown to lead to a significant reduction in the albumin level by the HABA technique but did not interfere with the BCG method. It was concluded that the HABA dye binding technique is unsatisfactory and a change to the BCG binding method is recommended.
