An open question in computational molecular biology is whether long-range correlations are present in both coding and noncoding DNA or only in the latter. To answer this question, we consider all 33 301 coding and all 29 453 noncoding eukaryotic sequences—each of length larger than 512 base pairs (bp—in the present release of the GenBank to determine whether there is any statistically significant distinction in their long-range correlation properties. Standard fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis indicates that coding sequences have practically no correlations in the range from 10 bp to 100 bp (spectral exponent β=0.00±0.04, where the uncertainty is two standard deviations). In contrast, for noncoding sequences, the average value of the spectral exponent β is positive (0.16±0.05), which unambiguously shows the presence of long-range correlations. We also separately analyze the 874 coding and the 1157 noncoding sequences that have more than 4096 bp and find a larger region of power-law behavior. We calculate the probability that these two data sets (coding and noncoding) were drawn from the same distribution and we find that it is less than 10-10. We obtain independent confirmation of these findings using the method of detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA), which is designed to treat sequences with statistical heterogeneity, such as DNA’s known mosaic structure (‘‘patchiness’’) arising from the nonstationarity of nucleotide concentration. web of science 上倒是还可以查到这个文献, 被引用了42次. 但是好像这个杂志已经停刊了. 是 Wiley, 或者 曾经是Wiley旗下的杂志

Abstract: Isomorphous substitution in zeolites by silicon, aluminium, boron, gallium, germanium, titanium, vanadium and iron is described. Since the catalytic properties of the solid are inextricably linked to its structure and composition, much effort has been devoted in recent years to preparing zeolitic materials containing heteroatoms in their framework. The consequences of substitution of heteroatoms into 'regular' crystalline aluminosilicates are described, including methods of preparation and properties of these novel materials. The theoretical basis of replacement is first dealt with. The experimental progress made in characterization of molecular sieves is exemplified by extensive use of MMR, EXAFS, neutron scattering and laser Raman spectroscopy data, in addition to other techniques. In particular, the short-range order of Si and X (where X = Al or other heteroatom) located in the zeolitic framework has been explored by solid-state NMR. This turned out to be a key method in understanding the properties of dealuminated and recently obtained reilluminated zeolites.
Fractals, at first a purely mathematical concept, have found multiple applications in chemistry and materials science. Here we present how the fractal dimension of dealuminated and realuminated faujasites can be measured. The results are interpreted satisfactorily within the frame of XRD, FT IR and MAS NMR studies of those solids.
Finally, the catalytic behaviour of metallosilicates, in both gas phase and Liquid phase, is discussed. It is shown that in addition to acidic catalysts, redox-type zeolite catalysts can be successfully prepared (e.g. gallium-, titanium- and vanadosilicates). Such solids can be used in a number of oxidation and reduction reactions.
Taking into account the progress made in understanding isomorphous substitution in zeolites, there is no doubt that many novel and surprising materials will be synthesized in the future.
