这段John Lennon评价经常被省略的是下一句：
“如果要给Chuck Berry另取一个名字，那就是Johnny B. Goode。”
不幸的消息大家应该已经听说了。
我们的老朋友、摇滚乐先驱Chuck Berry于3月18日去世，享年90岁。从1926到2017，一代传奇宣布落幕。前一年他刚刚宣布自己的新专辑《Chuck》 将于今年6月发布，这会是自1979年以来Chuck的第一张专辑，而现在也是最后一张。
Chuck原本要把新专献给自己的妻子，但他没有等到那一天的到来。命运或许照顾不到所有的音乐家，在去世前发声看来成为了一件奢侈的事。
伴随着Chuck Berry噩耗而来的，还有铺天盖地的Johnny B. Goode分享。千万别抱怨“你们只听过这首歌吗！”，其实对于Chuck Berry，用Johnny B. Goode纪念他的离去从不为过。
Johnny B. Goode它位列《滚石》100首最伟大的吉他曲No.1、500首最伟大歌曲的No.7，它代表着所有摇滚乐被收录进旅行者号金唱片，如果幸运，Johnny B. Goode将是外星人听到的第一首地球摇滚。
在几十年光阴的检验后，这首歌无疑称得上绝对经典，除了标志性的“Chuck Berry guitar intro”和“鸭子步”，很多人从未注意它的歌词有着丰富的内涵与双关，一改当时乐坛简单苍白的作词风格（这类歌词其实也有深层次，但属于被他人解读的层面），为摇滚乐的注入了鲜活的灵魂。
所以就像开头John Lennon所说的那样：如果要给Chuck Berry取另一个名字，那就是Johnny B. Goode。我们好好聊聊这首歌。

Elvis Presley，我们常说的猫王，是众所周知的第一位摇滚明星，也是第一位青少年偶像，他的成名便源自对Chuck Berry的模仿。但Chuck则展现出了远胜于猫王的内涵，他足够了解年轻人到底想听什么音乐，为他们量身定做好框架，而猫王则是Chuck Berry的践行者。可惜因为肤色，Chuck Berry注定只会是位著名的摇滚歌手，无法成为那个时代的“明星”。
Johnny B. Goode就是其中一首写给年轻人的歌曲——尽管Chuck已经三十多岁，但他精彩的音乐生涯才刚刚开始。20世纪50年代，经过经济大萧条与二战洗礼，疲惫不堪的美国人中盛行着“Suburban Ideal”的观念，开着新车，搬到郊区居住，生两三个小孩，再以一种世外姿态从电视新闻里观察世界是非常理想的生活。从白手起家到郊区养老，这是每个人所希冀的美国梦，至少是绝大多数白人的愿望。
不过与此同时，还有些“不和谐”的声音在隆隆作响。
非裔美国人被排除在了美国梦之外，他们不愿忍受压迫，掀起一浪高过一浪的民权运动。白人小孩们则在理想的美国梦标准生活样板下愈发无聊沉闷。
Chuck Berry此时横空出世，写出了一系列关于青年文化的作品：性爱，机车，逆反，他的第一张专辑就叫作“After School Session”。这些歌曲在白人黑人中都相当受用，Chuck Berry瘦削的形象与充满活力的作品也就慢慢溜入了在“郊区梦”主导下的白人视野中。但他成名前因为抢劫坐过牢，因此在白人眼里，Chuck不是传统意义上“体面”的音乐人，这很新鲜，sexy十足。
Johnny B. Goode是他最持久的一首热门单曲，收录于他的第三张专辑，1958年的《Chuck Berry Is on Top》。
这首歌正是对“郊区梦”的反叛：乡村男孩因为吉他技艺精湛，梦想着逃离乡村生活，去大城市见见世面。一个再普通不过的乡村故事，某种意义上甚至就是Chuck Berry的经历。
在当时的美国“逃离城市”的观念大潮中，这是逆潮流的挑战，是一次黑人观点的高调输出。不分肤色，青少年们现在有了Chuck Berry指出的另一条道路：人生不只有成为中产阶级等着拿退休金，你们可以做一些不切实际的梦，去弹琴，去摇滚，站在电视上让所有人都看到你的疯狂！

Chuck Berry在1986年的自传中写道：“我想我母亲是Johnny B. Goode无可争议的灵感来源，她反复跟我说：你总有一天会成为百万富翁……但我稍作改变，创作了一个平行的故事。”
歌曲创作还得从Chuck的青少年时期说起。
Chuck Berry出生的圣路易斯尽管种族隔离严重，却是是少有的几个世外桃源，在这里黑人能够保有自己财产。Chuck的母亲是教师，父亲是木匠，还不错的家庭条件让他为自己的黑人身份自豪，为自己的祖先与血缘自豪。
所以在平行世界里，他设定Johnny出身在路易斯安那州的新奥尔良，一个种族歧视更严重的地方，并乐观地写下了由衷的歌句：“Go Johnny go！”
我为所有愿意购买的听众创作音乐。从不考虑肤色，种族，政治——从不，我不想这样。

Johnny B. Goode中的“Johnny”来自Chuck早年的钢琴手Johnny Jackson，而他在自传中写道这个故事原本是关于“Colored Boy”，但考虑到目标是让白人同样接受歌曲，所以把有偏见的“Colored”改成了“Country”。
在圣路易斯时，尽管母亲受过大学教育，他却自己没有完成过高中学业。他和朋友因为持械抢劫，蹲了三年监狱。不过在监狱里，他加入了一个福音演唱组合，并自己完成了基本的教育，阅读许多伟大的诗作（如华兹华斯）。可以说这三年监狱生活里的自学，让他从众多乡野歌手中脱颖而出。而除了歌手，他还应该有一个头衔：作词家。
事实证明，我的名字确实出现在了霓虹灯上，Johnny B. Goode促成了这一切。

随后的故事大家都熟悉了。1955年，Chuck Berry加入第一批接纳黑人的芝加哥Chess唱片，创造了早期摇滚辉煌，与芝加哥蓝调并驾齐驱。那一年被称为摇滚元年。一直到2014年，他都没有离开舞台。

摇滚名人堂在总结Chuck Berry贡献时写道：“虽然任何个人都不可能‘发明’摇滚乐，但Chuck Berry是最接近发明者的那位。”
当《回到未来》的Michael J. Fox在舞会上早于现实三年演奏出Johnny B. Goode时，台下观众的表情就让我们应该意识到：在摇滚先驱光环之外，Chuck Berry更是一面超越种族、肤色旗帜，一个关于于年轻人梦想与财富的icon，一位新美国梦的缔造者。
Chuck的一生证明了黑人也能成为摇滚巨星，没有Chuck自然也会有摇滚乐，但那将会是另一番图景，谁知道这其中的玄机呢？
