As you will notice, this is not a regular Opera desktop build, but a version of WinGogi desktop. This is the Windows version of the reference builds that we use internally for testing Opera's platform-independent Core. &Desktop& means it is compiled with the same feature set as our regular desktop browser. Still, we do not recommend using this build for regular Web surfing as it lacks some of the security-related features found in our regular desktop versions.
In addition to a 100/100 pass rate and pixel-perfect rendering, the animation needs to be &smooth& in order to pass the test formally. While the actual smoothness of the animation to some extent depends on the capabilities of the machine running the build (and even on the responsiveness of the acidtests.org web site and your network connection speed for one of the tests), there are at least two subtests where we feel we need to improve the performance in order to achieve a perfect pass on current hardware. Clicking on the &A& in &Acid3& brings up a dialog listing the tests that took too long to execute.

EotTOpera 9.60 Beta (Build 10408)
changelog:
Hot on the heels of Wednesday's 9.52 release comes our first snapshot of 9.60.
Everyone here at on the Desktop Team has been working hard to add new features to your favorite browser, and here's what you can look forward to in 9.60:
Opera Link
Custom search engines and typed history* are now joining bookmarks, speed dials, personal bar, and notes in Opera Link.
Feed Preview
Now you can preview an RSS/Atom feed before subscribing.
Opera Mail: Low Bandwidth Mode
Low Bandwidth Mode is a setting on mail accounts that makes Opera Mail use as little bandwidth as possible. For IMAP, this means that Opera will only synchronise new messages and it will not fetch message attachments unless requested. For POP, Opera will not fetch more than the first 100 lines of a message unless requested.
Opera Mail: Follow/Ignore threads and contacts
Follow and Ignore are new features for users that receive a lot of messages. It makes it easier to dismiss unimportant messages and easier to recognise important messages.
Opera Mail: Go To Thread
You can now also &Go to thread& which means that you can view only the messages from that thread. Useful for those that uses flat view.

metriodOpera 10.0 Alpha 1
What's New
Below is an overview of the new functionality in Opera 10.0 Alpha 1.
Presto 2.2 Engine
Opera 10.0 Alpha 1 includes Presto 2.2 (Kestrel includes Presto 2.1.1), an updated version of Opera's Core. Presto 2.2 features numerous new features and loads of bug fixes, such as:
100/100 and pixel-perfect on the Acid3 test (http://acid3.acidtests.org/)
New regular expression engine, which greatly improves performance
Improved CSS performance
Pretty-printing of unstyled XML
Web font support
RGBA and HSLA support
Selectors API support (http://www.w3.org/TR/selectors-api/)
Auto-update
The long awaited auto-update functionality is here! That's right, Opera will now update itself as new versions are released. And for those of you who want every single snapshot release just enable the &Download All Snapshots& setting (opera:config#AutoUpdate). Please be aware that if you do so, you will be upgrading to all snapshots - and as you know: snapshots contain the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all. You have been warned
Inline Spelling Checker
Opera now checks your spelling as you write! The inline spelling checker is enabled by default for multi-line edit fields and this Alpha comes with a US English dictionary. Use the context menu of input fields to change the settings, and to correct spelling errors. See the detailed changelog for information about using other dictionaries (http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/w100a1.html#spellcheck).
Opera Mail Improvements
Rich Text Composition
Opera Mail can now send rich text messages! You can insert inlined images, styled text, links, custom HTML, and more! You can also forward and redirect rich text messages or reply to them with styled text.
In the account settings select &Prefer HTML formatting& in the outgoing tab so that you can start writing rich text mails by default in our WYSIWYG editor!
Remove from server after X days (POP-only)
This new feature is for our POP users with limited server space. Opera Mail can now remove messages from the server that have been there for X days. Of course you can limit Opera Mail to only remove read messages from the server, and/or only fully downloaded messages, which works great in combination with low-bandwith mode.
Other Changes
When viewing a message, the message subjects are now a text field again instead of a button. We have added also a &Thread& button to the message list toolbar to make some features more visible.
Widget Improvements on Linux/UNIX
We have added experimental support for true transparency for widgets on Linux/UNIX. For this to work you have to have an X Server that provides a 32-bit visual device and a running composite manager. If you start Opera from a terminal it will print this message if it detects a suitable 32-bit visual device: &(experimental) ARGB visual detected: Use '-visual 0x6f' to activate it&.
If you have a composite manager running you can then try it out by starting Opera with: &opera -visual 0x6f& (0x6f may be another number on your machine).

metriodValentine's Snapshot
Takk for sist (http://www.proz.com/kudoz/norwegian_to_english/general_conversation_greetings_letters/928537-takk_for_sist.html) It's been a while since the last snapshot and the Desktop Team has been working hard to improve Peregrine. In addition to a load of fixes, there are some important changes:
Easily Subscribe to Online Feed Readers
It's now possible to subscribe to online feed readers directly from the feed preview page. The list of online feed readers will be expanded soon.
Web Mail Providers Changes
The previous snapshot included a new feature where clicking a mailto link could open a user's preferred Web mail provider, including Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, and Windows Live Mail. Unfortunately, the Open The Web Team constantly struggles to resolve new issues that pop up with those providers because they don't officially support Opera. Thus, we have decided not to include any Web mail provider by default that doesn't officially support Opera. The Opera Team greatly desires to provide the best support for the services Opera's users use most, but when those services do not reciprocate, tough decisions have to be made. The Open The Web Team is working hard to get Opera officially supported by Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, and Windows Live Hotmail.
In this snapshot, the following Web mail providers have been added: Opera Web Mail, Fastmail, and Yandex.
Integrated Crash Logging (Windows-only)
The IIXII Inspector tool has been integrated directly into Windows builds. Now, if Opera crashes, a log file will be written to the system temp. directory. This is just the first step in improved crash logging.
WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.
Fixed crash when showing authentication dialogs for feeds
Fixed problem that could make Opera send blank e-mails

Deactivated scrollmarker by default

metriodNew Peregrine build
We've finally got a new snapshot available for testing. As always, try to keep the comments on-topic.
If you are wondering what, where and how you should post, take a look at the FAQ (http://snapshot.opera.com/faq.html).
WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.
What's new?
This time around there are lots of fixes all over. Some things are work in progress, such as the spell checking feature (see the changelog).
Mail database corruption check
In this build, Opera will also check the mail database for corruption on startup. If one of the files is found to be not consistent, Opera will try to recover that file. You can find information about how the process went in the recovery.log file in the mail folder. At the moment, this consistency check happens on every startup, and will delay the startup a bit. This is going to be improved in future builds, and the consistency check will likely happen for every update or on a monthly schedule.
Known issues
Sending private messages at Facebook doesn't work
Comments at digg.com overlap
Spelling checker isn't working for some users
If the Opera Mail lexicon is corrupt, it isn't correctly recovered
The names in the online feed dropdown are not showing correctly in the feed preview page

metriodTurbo in 10
Opera Turbo included in 10
If you have a laptop, use slow wifi or mobile networks it's time to start using Opera 10 snapshots Opera Turbo is now included! Since the labs release (http://labs.opera.com/news//), a number of improvements have been implemented
We introduced a new (experimental ) Turbo setting: Automatic. If you enable this feature Opera will turn on Turbo when the network is slow. You can enable automatic mode in the Web Pages tab in the preference dialog. Opera will also show you a special notification when you are on a slow network and Turbo is not yet on.
Fixes to downloading of images
Impossible to click links on some sites
Gmail problems solved
Improved performance
New file layout in installation and profile directories
Traditionally the files installed by the Opera installer are named and layout differently per platform. For instance on Mac, preferences are stored in &Opera 9 Preferences& while on Unix and Windows this file is called &opera6.ini&. In Opera 10 these differences will disappear. If you upgrade to this snapshot, the files will be renamed and moved to the new location.
WARNING: Please only test upgrading if you have backed up your Opera profile!
Known bugs when upgrading:
favicons are missing after upgrade
speeddials are empty after upgrade
New sprelling checker
In this snapshot Opera now uses the hunspell (http://hunspell.sourceforge.net/) library as spelling checker. This provides better spelling suggestions and improves compatibility with several dictionaries.
Crashlog reporting, now on Linux!
In the previous post (http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog//integrated-crashlogging-tool) on this blog we asked you to upload crashlogs generated by Opera. Please continue to send logs, several crashes have been fixed thanks to your help!
builds now also automatically create crash logs. You can find them in /var/tmp

metriodNew snapshot with automated crash reporting, and a more detailed changelog
WARNING: Please only test upgrading if you have backed up your Opera profile!
We now have a policy not to release on Fridays because of the autoupdate feature, but since this build will not be available as an automatic update, we can make an exception
Read on to learn what's new in this snapshot.
Automated crash reporting
With this snapshot you will finally be able to send crash report directly to us without having to upload them manually to the bug tracking system (https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/). This only works for Windows for now, but it will be available for the other platforms as well.
When Opera crashes, it will open a dialog box (http://files.myopera.com/haavard/albums/747255/crash-dialog.png) which asks whether you want to report the crash to us. Clicking on &Options& lets you fill in some details, such as what you were doing when the crash occurred. There is also an option to restart Opera (enabled by default), so that you can get it up and running again right away.
We are aware that some of the text under &Options& is cut off, so there is no need to report that.
We have already fixed several crash bugs based on the logs you have uploaded, but with this new crash reporting mechanism it's even easier to help us make Opera even more stable. We have systems in place to handle the incoming reports which allows us to process crash logs more efficiently, resulting in a more stable product.
The dialog is work in progress, so we appreciate any feedback.
Note: If you come across any reproducible crash bugs, we would still appreciate it if you report them through the Bug Report Wizard (https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/).
Changelogs
We also have good news for those of you who have requested more detailed changelogs.
This time around we have processed all the changes since the previous snapshot in order to be able to provide you with more details. The complete changelog has a lot of information that isn't applicable to the current public build, or that are of a sensitive nature, so there is quite a bit of manual work involved. We need to make sure that we get as many relevant changes as possible while at the same time avoid revealing something we shouldn't. Feature development for Opera 10 isn't finished yet, after all.
Depending on how this turns out, we may decide to do this in the future as well.
Known Issues

2) You can point to an unzipped skin by adding the full path to the skin.ini file in opera:config#UserPrefs|ButtonSet (use the &Reload skin& action after changing the setting)
3) Toolbar.ini defines new button skins for each toolbar, so each toolbar can be skinned separately. Fallback is Toolbar Button Skin. (Known issue: Native skins not updated yet, so they will get the hover state for the default skin instead)

EotTOpera 10.0 build 1535
For those who'd like a sneaky-peek at the development of the new Opera 10 skin for Windows and Mac, this is the snapshot build for you!
Things to bear in mind while you're playing with this:
What you see here is neither complete nor final, and there will be more iterations before the final release. Some elements will still look like the current skin!
Currently the skin is implemented for the default setup, tabs at the top, panels on the left, panel toolbar on the left and status bar at the bottom. Other setups will look a bit odd - for now.
This build doesn't include the new features in Opera 10, so one of the reasons for the revised skin isn't there. All we be clear when the beta comes out!
A more descriptive post about the thinking behind the new skin, and why we're changing it will follow with the beta. For now, give it time to 'settle down' and see what you think! We have also hit another issue no other browser has run into (yet!). By reaching the version number 10 we have noticed several high-profile sites and frameworks breaking because of wrong browser sniffing. Opera 10 gets (erroneously!) detected as... Opera 1. We have modified the UA string to read
Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00 (or similar - depending on your platform). The &real& version is added at the end of the string. We will publish a more detailed explanation of this soon. Please let us know if you come across some web sites that break now because of this change!

EotTOpera 10 build 1551 beta 1
Unix support
On the Linux/Unix front, we are discontinuing support for builds made with gcc 2.95. Also, Sparc Solaris builds are now made on Solaris 10 (with gcc 3) - they should run on Solaris 9 as well. If these changes affect you, we'd love to hear your feedback.
