为了纪念科学引文索引（SCI）诞生五十周年，Nature委托汤森路透列出了。荣登榜首的那篇文章你一定猜不到。
据介绍，这份百强名单的入围资格是引用次数超过12,119。令人意外的是，许多特别知名的论文并未入榜，比如DNA双螺旋结构的确定。而1951年发表的一种蛋白定量方法，狂揽三十多万次引用，成为了最大的赢家。该文章的作者，美国生化学家Oliver
Lowry也对此感到困惑。

那么百强榜上还有哪些与生物学有关的关键方法呢？
生物学技术
引文百强主要被蛋白质生化论文所占据。1951年发表的Lowry蛋白定量法遥遥领先，而Bradford蛋白定量法位列第三。排在它们之间的是用于蛋白分析的Laemmli缓冲液。这些技术在细胞和分子生物学文章中被大量引用，它们仍是这些领域最基本的工具之一。
上榜的生物学技术中有两个获得了诺贝尔奖。Frederick Sanger的DNA测序方法位列第四，该方法也为他赢得了1980年的诺贝尔化学奖。Kary
Mullis因PCR法获得了1993年的诺贝尔化学奖，这一方法在引文百强中位列63。测序和PCR都是遗传学研究的革命性技术，如今仍然有着旺盛的生命力。
除此之外，上世纪八十年代的一种RNA纯化技术位列第五。该技术实现了低成本的快速RNA提取，受到了广泛的欢迎。在非编码短RNA的研究热潮中，这一技术仍然起着重要的作用。
生物信息学
基因测序的迅猛发展，大大提高了序列分析论文的排名，BLAST就是一个很好的例子。对于研究基因和蛋白功能的研究者来说，BLAST近二十年来绝对算得上是家喻户晓。我们只需要打开一个网页，输入DNA、RNA或蛋白序列，就能在几秒钟内获得各种生物中的相关序列。BLAST的两个版本居然都上了百强榜，分别在12位和14位。
能够一次比对多个序列的Clustal也不甘示弱，ClustalW和ClustalX的排名分别是第10和第28。在Clustal软件的帮助下，人们能研究源自不同生物的序列有怎样的进化关系，看起来不想关的序列存在怎样的匹配，预测DNA或蛋白特定位点发生改变对其功能有何影响。
系统发生学主要是研究物种之间的进化关系，这类方法也随着基因组测序的发展而水涨船高。
百强榜的第二十位是neighbor-joining法。这种方法由根井正利（Masatoshi
Nei）等人提出，可以根据大量物种之间的进化距离，快速有效的构建进化树。
排在第41位的文章，将统计学工具用到了系统发生研究中。这种称为bootstrap的工具，能够推断进化树不同部分的精确性。

氮化铝纳米带和碳掺杂的氮化铝纳米带/薄片的第一性原理研究
【摘要】：在过去的几年,石墨烯纳米带(GNRs)在实验上已经通过传统的设备仪器制备出来。由于它特殊的结构和电子特性以及在纳米电子学方面潜在的应用而引起人们的广泛关注。理论上,锯齿型边缘的石墨纳米带(ZGNRs)在费米能级处的2π/3≤|k|≤π区域拥有部分平带,由于该处的电荷密度大部分局域在锯齿型边缘原子上,因此这些态被称为“边缘态”(edge state)。此外,这些边缘态不仅仅出现在ZGNRs里,人们发现类似的边缘态也出现在锯齿型边缘氮化硼纳米带(ZBNNRs)。由于B-N键的极性,BNNRs可能拥有和GNRs不同的能够在光学和纳米电子器件方面引起潜在应用的特性。除了GNRs外,BNNRs、氮化铝纳米带(AINNRs)和氮化镓纳米带(GaNNRs)均已在实验室被成功合成。在第三族元素的氮化物中,氮化铝拥有6.2eV的能隙而成为最大能隙的半导体,因此具有热稳定性高,电导率介电性能可靠的特征。因此AINNRs成为在恶劣环境中进行操作的备选纳米材料之一。而且在2003年,纯晶锯齿型氮化铝纳米带这种新的形态通过氯化物辅助固相也已经获得。此外,研究表明对AINNRs的结构进行适当的改变,如掺杂或替换,其功能和应用范围将得到极大的提高。因此,本论文在广义梯度近似(Generalized Gradient Approximation, GGA)下,利用基于密度泛函理论(Density functional theory, DFT)的投影缀加波(Projector Augmented Wave, PAW)的第一性原理计算对氮化铝纳米带和由氮化铝、石墨桥连接而成的六边形网状锯齿型边界异质薄片A1NCX (x=2,4,6)以及单一碳链掺杂的、两边缘由氢原子饱和的锯齿型边缘氮化铝纳米带的结构和电子性能进行了详细的研究。得到的结论包括：
(1)在带宽为6的锯齿型边缘氮化铝纳米带(6-ZA1NNR)中,最低未占据导带(LUCB)和最高占据价带(HOVB)在布里渊区边界Z点分别形成电荷积累在边缘Al原子和边缘N原子上的边缘态。引入石墨桥Cx并增加其宽度导致LUCB和HOVB这两条能带越来越接近对方尤其是在布里渊区边界Jy点周围的平的散射区域,即异质纳米片AlNC2, AlNC4和AlNC6的能隙相继地减少。与ZAINNRs的边缘态相似,平的散射边界态(border state)也同样出现在六边形网状异质纳米片AlNCX的锯齿型边界处。与电荷只局域在一种边缘原子上的边缘态不同的是,边界态的电荷局域在边界处的两种原子上并表现出成键或反键的特性。
(2)在带宽为7的完整的锯齿型边缘氮化铝纳米带(7-ZAlNNR)中,LUCB和HOVB在布里渊区边界Z点分别形成电荷积累在边缘Al原子和边缘N原子的边缘态。单一碳链的掺杂使在7-ZAlNNR的能隙中增加了两条能带LUCB和HOVB且新的能隙随其掺杂位置的改变而改变。与完整的ZAINNRs的LUCB和HOVB在布里渊区边界Z点的平带类似,单一碳链修饰的ZAlNNR也存在电荷分别局域在边缘Al原子和边缘N原子的平散射的边界态。但是它的LUCB和HOVB这两条能带上的电荷分别局域在边界C-N和C-Al上。而且,对于宽度Nz=2,3,4,5,6,7和10的Nz-ZAlNNR-C(n)而言,只有NZ-ZAlNNR-C(1)的能隙是直接能隙,其他的能隙都是间接能隙。从能隙随碳链位置n的变化图看出,NZ-ZAlNNR-C(1)和NZ-ZAlNNR-C(2)有着几乎相同的最小能隙0.132eV和最大能隙1.0eV,除了2-ZAlNNR-C(2)的最大能隙为0.63eV因为2-ZAlNNR-C(2)属于碳链替换右边缘的铝氮链的群组。这个群组的能隙随着带宽的增加而线性减小。对于3-,4-,5-,6-,7-和10-ZAlNNR-C(n),它们的能隙分别随着碳链位置n从2到3,4,5,6,7,10依次减小。
